Genome-wide differential expression comparison between disease and healthy control samples

RNA-sequencing or expression microarray experiments generate gene expression profiles, enabling genome-wide expression comparisons between samples, such as disease vs. healthy tissue, treated vs. control or mutated model vs. wild type. Using suitable thresholds for both fold change (X-axis) and statistical significance (Y-axis) yields genes which are differentially expressed between the samples. These genes can both reflect and explain the phenotypic differences on a molecular level.
